A decade ago, the Ark Encounter, a life-sized Noah’s ark replica in Williamstown, Kentucky, opened its doors. In an unprecedented way, the massive structure brings to life the true story of Noah and the ark, as it was built to be the same specifications as described in the Bible.
Answers in Genesis CEO, Ken Ham, is the founder of the theme park. He says that the mission behind building the replica of the ark was to help people understand that the “history in the Bible is true.” Ten years later, Kentucky has seen a significant number of tourists pour into the state to visit the Ark Encounter. The theme park has seen over 9 million visitors in the last ten years.
Since 2016, when the Ark Encounter opened, there have been 20 hotels built in Northern Kentucky to help handle all of the Ark Encounter’s guests. Both the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum, which was also founded by Answers in Genesis, will see over 1.5 million tourists every year.
The Ark Encounter, ultimately, is a tool for the Gospel. It is reaching unbelievers with the truth of Scripture and equipping believers to defend the historicity of the Bible. The Ark Encounter, without a doubt, is a massive blessing to Kentucky’s economy and to those who visit it. But let us pray that the Ark Encounter will not only flood Kentucky with tourists, but will also flood heaven with souls.
